A busy guy now!

I just started a new job here in SoSoCal. Lemme begin first by saying that once a position is applied for in the public sector, it may take some time for them to respond to your inquiry. This is a case of how I got this job. I first applied about a year ago seeing the position open up on the city’s website (a great way to find a job) and saw a police related job. Well just a month ago, they hollered via cell and said they wanted to interview me for a new position. Heck, I was sitting at home and doing my homework part-time and kicking ass on Call of Duty part-time as well. I think I could fit in a new job. I went to the interview, impressed the hell outta them =D, went through background investigations with lightning speed, and POW I’m hired.

This position is basically support staff to officers, but not with full authority as an officer. Normal duties include: (1) filing paper work, (2) processing detainees, (3) writing reports and (4) being the first contact the public makes when entering a station. This position is called Community Service Officer (CSO). However, instead of being placed in an office, they needed another person to work in their new jail facility on the lower dungeonous level of the department. Needing a job, I whipped a big smile and took the offer. Now your boy Gary has a firm foot in the criminal justice field as a jailer!

I always told everyone that working in a prison like facility was NOT the type of branch that I was looking into. However, this is a far smaller facility housing approximately 40 people. I see this as a research opportunity for my Master’s thesis, I am hoping to improve a detention facility’s resource efficiency with policy changes. But that’ll be next semester.

As for now, I got two full time jobs now. If I didn’t think about apply for a position a year ago, I think id still be a student. I encourage everyone to visit a city of working potential and look for the human resources section on their website. A bunch of good jobs out there, you just have to find it!

Academics and Fun!

Since the semester began four weeks ago, I have been stressing way too much on petty school projects which should not be too difficult, but its fun atleast...
These are the four classes that I am currently enrolled in:
(1) 515-Report Writing - Humorous teacher, no stale jokes.
(2) 517-Excel Stats - I get to sit in front of a computer to do statistical work! weeee....
(3) 570-Policy Analysis - Hmmm, arguably the most difficult class so far in my program.
(4) 577-Human Resources - The role playing interactive groups is quite fun. We get to act!

Aside from them four classes, I am still enrolled into extra stuff which is for my own benefit:
(a) Yoga 101 - .........*exhale, stretch*.......oh yeah thats great.
(b) Basketball - yeah man, I'm gonna post up some chicks in class.
(c) Associate Students Inc. - I'm gonna go back to student government...Politics baby!

As of last week, I have been working out pretty hard. Every other day I get to drag myself out and jam-out two miles. I feel better already =D.
Ill put together a list of what I have been eating for a diet. I will also outline my dietary recipes.
Gimme a day or two, I gotta paper to write.

Yeah I got a Comment!

Thanks to my distant neighbor, Oscar "the man with the hairy palms" Garcia, I got a comment. Haha. To refer back to your statement, yes it does feel good to write stuff down that has been sitting in my mind for a moment.

Although I don't have much hopes for this blog to become a reader's digest, I will do my best to illustrate my life in a entertaining way for you readers to see what I experience on a regular basis. So I hope people who come in read my thoughts will enjoy what I post.

The Q-Tip

What made this post possible stemmed from experiences that I had from yesterday night. There are all kinds of personalities who come through and make themselves a home. Whats more interesting is that my roommate Jon is in a fraternity.

It's 2am, I am once again on Warcraft when roommate Teef knocks on my door and enters angrily saying "guess what the hell JUST happened?" not knowing what to expect, I generically asked him whats going on. "I'm downstairs, half-awake and one of Jon's frat dude has the nerve, to command me to get him a Q-tip. Like who the fuck are you in a disrespecting tone, ask me the resident of this house, to get you a goddamn Q-tip."

At this point I didn't know how to respond without laughing, things like this may seem out of line, but its also believable. Doesn't it feel just right when stranger gives you serious orders to follow? I mean, its cool that one ask, but to command in a disrespectful manner to the house resident as a guest is another matter. pissing Teef off 2am in the morning is just great entertainment. I even stepped away from the computer to hear this good story. Too bad I was the only one to witness it.
